A Summer of Learning: Reflections From a Mr. Chain Intern

At Mr. Chain, we believe that a valuable internship is about more than gaining experience in a specific field. It is an opportunity to learn, ask questions, work alongside experienced professionals, and get a firsthand look at how a business operates.

This summer, we were fortunate to welcome interns to our team and give them the opportunity to explore different areas of our manufacturing operation. While their responsibilities varied, each intern had the chance to contribute to real projects, work alongside members of our team, and gain experience that extends beyond what can be learned in a classroom.

As the summer comes to a close, we asked one of our interns, Nate, to reflect on his experience at Mr. Chain, what he learned, and what he will carry with them as he continues pursuing his career.

An Intern's Perspective

I have been very interested in finance for a long time. This interest is what drove me to choose my current major, Accounting. Because of this, I was excited to gain experience in my future career field. That being said, I was really looking forward to starting work here at M R Products (Mr. Chain).

Now, being at the end of the experience and reflecting on my time here, it is safe to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. I enjoyed the work that I got to do, especially the financial aspect of it all. I also got to be a part of other tasks and projects that allowed me to see more of the ins and outs of a manufacturing company.

I am very thankful for this because it allowed me to see all aspects of a manufacturing company that I would not have been able to see if I were simply stuck in an office all day. I will carry this experience with me as I continue through my career because it has given me knowledge of how everything operates, from production to shipping and assembly. These are things that I would not have learned in a classroom, and they are valuable knowledge that I can carry with me into the future.

The thing I enjoyed the most about the job was interacting with all of the people who are a part of this company. The variety of tasks that I did this summer allowed me to work with every part of the company and see how each department operates.

The biggest thing that I took away from that is how essential everyone is to the health of the company. Working with everyone really made me understand why the company has been so successful recently. There is a desire from everyone to improve the company in every way possible while making sure the employees are the top priority.

It always felt like people would go above and beyond when I needed help with something. Even if it interrupted whatever they were doing, they made sure to help me when I needed it. I think the most apparent thing to me is how healthy the culture here is. It seems to me that my experience is not unique in the fact that people are always going above and beyond to help others and make sure the company is operating optimally.

Reflecting on the last couple of months working here, I can say that I am very grateful for it all. This internship has helped me understand how vital every person is to the health of a manufacturing company. To me, the coolest part of M R Products is how well the company emphasizes that fact and truly makes every employee feel important and appreciated.

I am grateful for the career experience, the opportunity to see the financial aspects of managerial accounting, and the chance to gain hands-on experience.

Looking Ahead

We are grateful that our interns chose to spend part of their summer learning and growing with the Mr. Chain team. Experiences like these are an important part of helping students connect what they learn in the classroom with the realities of a career.

For us, that learning goes both ways. Welcoming students into our operation gives them an opportunity to explore potential career paths, while giving our team the chance to share our knowledge and experience. At the same time, we learn from our interns and the fresh perspectives they bring to the workplace. Their questions, ideas, and new ways of looking at things can challenge us to think differently and remind us of the value of continuing to learn ourselves.

We are also proud that Nate’s experience highlighted something we value deeply at Mr. Chain: our people. From production and assembly to accounting, shipping, and everything in between, every department plays an important role in keeping our operation moving forward. We believe that a strong company is built by people who are willing to support one another, share their knowledge, and work together toward a common goal.

We wish our summer interns all the best as they continue their education and begin building their careers. We are grateful for the work they contributed, the questions they asked, and the opportunity to be part of their journey.
